Sept & Oct Faves 2018: Halloween, My Last Flight & A Vintage Fashion Haul!

by

I always go through phases of being a bit shit with these faves posts. I love doing them as they’re more of an update on what’s going on in my life, y’know? But alas, I seem to have missed September this year. Fear not, I’ve chucked it all together in this bumper catch-up.

In my defence, there’s been a lot going on over September and October, what with taking my last few trips, adjusting to life back at my parents’ house and buying all the baby stuff ever (more on that soon).

So here you go pal, everything I’ve been up to and have been loving over the last two months…

September & October Faves 2018

This Month I… Enjoyed Halloween festivities!

Ahhh I love Halloween! I mean, being 7 months pregnant, it’s not quite the boozy affair it normally is, but I was keen to keep with tradition and enjoy the usual festivities.

So first up, I had a spooky girls night in with my friends. Every year we watch Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic, we carve pumpkins together and eat snacks. It’s always fun and we don’t ever seem to get bored with doing the same thing every year. I think because we have busy lives and it’s not that often we do a girls thing together. Plus, my pal Jordan made us some v nice Halloween cupcakes. Cheers, Jord.

Then the gang headed to the annual Stony Stratford Zombie Pub Crawl!

I mean it’s definitely a different experience when you’re sober and I was conscious of drunken zombies knocking into me, so felt quite protective of the bump. But I still had a nice time with my friends, despite leaving early and driving home (via KFC obvs).

My favourite part of this night is the dressing up part anyway. I decided to make the most of being pregnant this year and dressed as a zombie fortune-teller, turning my stomach into a crystal ball! Although I didn’t coordinate outfits with my friends and ended up in the same outfit as my pal, Sam… But hey, I think we make quite the spooky fortune-telling duo, dontcha think?

Also, how good was Josh’s costume of The Rock?!

I also dressed up for a Halloween event at work this month. It’s team fancy dress and my team got Day Of The Dead. So I went full-on Dia de los Muertos chic, complete with this awesome pregnant skeleton t-shirt from Amazon! (Link here!) I loved this look as I still felt super comfy.

Oh and my team won the Halloween quiz! I knew my knowledge of Harry Potter, Hocus Pocus and The Craft would come in handy one day…

This Month I’m… Babymooning!

As you know, it’s been Babymoon-central round here, with lots of content about my trip to The Algarve with Jet2 (read about it over here). It was my last proper trip before the baby, so I really made the most of it, spending some quality time relaxing with Josh.

I also enjoyed a spa day at Eden Hall, complete with my first pregnancy massage which was totally dreamy! (Read about it here).

I was planning on one last weekend away in the UK but I’m going to see how I go. I don’t want to push myself too much now I’m in my third trimester. Shit’s getting real.

This Month I Took… My LAST FLIGHT.

My last flight was actually for work, and I jetted off to Barcelona for one night only for a meeting this month. Honestly, it was hard work. I struggle with work trips as it is – early mornings, late nights, long meetings. But when you’re pregnant, it’s even more exhausting!

It’s crazy to think I’ve taken my last flight for a while though. For the first time in a long time there are ZERO travel plans in my future and I have to admit that makes me feel pretty anxious! But it’s for the best possible reason and I think this new arrival is going to be a pretty big adventure as it is.

This Month I’m Buying… Vintage Clothes

I’ve made a few little vintage buys in September and October. I think because I’m only buying maternity basics at the moment, buying vintage feels really special. I’m actually buying things I love for a change and not the same Breton stripe maternity tees!

I bought an amazing vintage gold jacket from the 1980’s in a local vintage store in Buckingham, as well as a few oversized tees I can wear for a bit whilst pregnant.

And then last week I went to the Worth The Weight vintage kilo sale in Milton Keynes. You pay £15 per kilo of vintage goodness and I came away with a few bargains, including some cool Scandi knits, an abundance of silk scarves and an amazing denim jacket with 90210 embroidered on it. Which I just think is the coolest thing ever.

This Month I’m Wearing… Nighties

Ok so for the first time since 1995, I’ve been wearing nighties to bed. They’re literally the best thing ever when you’re pregnant (no waistbands, pal!) and I think I might just keep on wearing them! I mean yeah they’re not the sexiest but OH HOLY MACKEREL SO COMFORTABLE.

I picked up a few Disney numbers for £5 each in Primark and they are amazing. Think I’m going to go back for more.

This Month I’m Reading… Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton

I jumped on the Dolly Alderton bandwagon and decided to read Everything I Know About Love this month, and I just loved it. It’s all over social media for a reason! After reading mainly baby books for the last 6 months, I really loved getting lost in such a well-written and relatable memoir. I laughed, I cried, I adored it.

I’m actually thinking of doing a bit of a roundup of all the books I’ve loved this year, so let me know if you’d be into reading that, yeah?

This Month I’m Eating… Homemade French Toast

If you’ve been reading my pregnancy diaries, you’ll know I’m craving all things SWEET at the moment. And the other day I woke up craving french toast for breakfast. To the point where I was queuing up outside Waitrose waiting for it to open so I could buy brioche bread… (I know, who even am I?).

It’s the first time I’ve ever made it and it was literally the best thing ever so I had to share it with you. I mean it’s full of sugar and calories and whatever, but it was freaking amazing and is officially my weekend brunch of choice. I followed this BBC Good Food recipe over here, buddy.

This Month I’m Celebrating… My Pal’s Wedding

Last month I headed up to Cheshire to celebrate my friends Matt and Lorna’s wedding! It was SUCH a lovely day, in a gorgeous venue, and it really makes you feel like a grown-up when you see your friends get married. Super happy for them, and just a bit jealous that Josh and I aren’t getting married for a little while (baby first!).

Also, it’s so weird being the only sober one when your friends are battered. It’s definitely been the booziest night I’ve been to in a while so I really noticed the difference! I also got to stay at the lovely The Roebuck Inn whilst I was there, which has the dreamiest of roll top baths – read my hotel review over here.

This Month I’m Loving… Design.ME Travel The World Kit

Design.ME sent me their Travel The World kit this month, which has a bunch of hair products in it, in special travel sized bottles. It contains a Powerdry.ME product for quicker hair drying, a Fab.ME leave-in treatment and a Puff.ME volumising powder.

I mean, I would say these are all total luxury items so definitely not essential if you’re backpacking or low on space! But I have definitely liked using them at home lately! I’ve never used a product that makes your hair dry quicker before, but the Powerdry.ME definitely gives me an extra 5 mins in bed in the morning before work. Which is crucial at 7 months pregnant, pal.

This Month I’m Using… Day 2

Something else that arrived in the post this month was the Day2 Dry Wash Spray. It’s pretty much dry shampoo for your clothes, so as an avid Batiste-user, I was keen to try it out! This spray freshens up clothes so you can wear them again without washing, which is a bit of a game-changer when travelling long-term I think. I’ve definitely had a few times where I couldn’t find a laundry service in a new destination and had to wear dirty clothes. And yeah, it works pretty well actually!

Apparently it also takes out creases so that you don’t need to iron either, but I would say this is just for light creases in jersey, not like shirts or anything. But I mean that’s fine by me because I never iron anyway so every little helps!

What’s Coming Up In November?

Oh god as if it’s November already? Coming up this month I have bonfire night goodness, I’ll be publishing my Christmas Gift Guides, starting my NCT classes and celebrating a friend’s engagement! Lots going on!

So, see you same time next month?

Let me know what you’ve been up to this month in the comments below or head on over to my Instagram and Twitter channels for more regular updates on my life in general.
