August Faves 2018: Scans, Maternity Fashion & National Geographic!

by

I’ve liked August quite a lot.

I’ve liked the cooler weather and the promise of Autumn. I’ve liked the fact that I’ve felt the best in my pregnancy so far and had such great news like finding out the gender of our baby. I’ve liked that I’ve gotten my shit together this month, sorting out my house move and getting back to scheduling blog posts now that I’m not constantly nauseous and exhausted.

So August 2018 gets a big thumbs-up from me, kiddo. Here’s what I’ve been crushing on this month…

August Faves 2018

This Month I’m Featured In… National Geographic Traveller Magazine!!

Ahhhhhhhh! No big deal but I’m featured in one of the BIGGEST travel magazines out there this month! It’s just a little feature in National Geographic Traveller’s food mag but I’m oh-so-proud to see my name in the byline and my lil black and white photo in the sidebar.

I’m in their ‘Ask The Experts’ feature (lol I’m an expert, kids), answering a question about what to eat and where in the Deep South USA. Condensing all the info in my mammoth blog post on this topic into 200 words was quite the feat, but I’m just so grateful and so happy to be involved.

LOOK, IT ME.

This Month I’m Using… INC.redible’s You Glow Girl

I saw the beautiful mermaid that is Sophie Hannah wearing a lovely peachy highlighter on Instagram Stories and instantly had to buy it. I mean, if any brands out there are questioning the power of influencers, take note, son.

It’s called You Glow Girl by INC.redible (Nails INC spinoff) in Peach Out, and is really golden and shimmery without looking like it’s too much for daytime, y’know? Gives me a nice glow like I’m just back from a month in Bali, which really is the look I’m always striving for tbh.

This Month I’m Wearing… everything ASOS Maternity

I’m a bit worried about how many maternity clothes I’m buying, considering I have such a short amount of time to wear them. But when the ASOS summer sale rolled around and loads of those maternity bits in my Saved Items dropped to half price, I couldn’t freaking contain myself.

BUY ALL THE THINGS.

I’ve bought some practical things I’ll wear every week like denim dungarees to take me through winter (are you even pregz if you don’t wear dungarees though?). But I’ve also bought a few semi-nice dresses that might have been a bit extravagant, because they’re not everyday wear, y’know?

Like the cute cobalt-blue midi dress (that looks like a maxi dress on 5’4″ me) I got for our engagement party. Pretty though, right? (link here)

I may have to do a separate post about my maternity wardrobe… Let me know if you’d be into that?

This Month I’m Watching… Orange Is The New Black

I could’ve sworn it hadn’t been a year since I watched season 5 of OITNB but then I remembered I watched it on a cruise around the Greek Islands last summer. Not quite the same set-up this year, watching season 6 in front of a fan, in my bedroom, fighting the pregnancy hormones that make me want to cry uncontrollably for no reason.

But hey, life is weird like that. Come season 7, who knows where I could be, huh? (Probs still in my bedroom in front of a fan, but with a nipper crying instead, but whatevs).

Anyway, I digress. Season 6 is pretty good is what I’m saying. You should watch it.

This Month I’m Reading… Your No Guilt Pregnancy Plan

I was recommended Rebecca Schiller’s ‘Your No Guilt Pregnancy Plan’ by someone on Instagram and bought it on a whim. But it’s turned into my favourite pregnancy book so far. It’s the first one to make me feel really positive and empowered about childbirth – just knowing more details about the process and your rights in hospital is really great. It also focuses on how pregnancy and birth affects your relationships and your mental health and your lifestyle. Not just the gross biology stuff, y’know?

Can’t recommend it enough for anyone having a baby in the not-too-distant future.

This Month I’m Having… My 20 Week Scan

I had a private scan to find out the gender of our baby, just so that I could find out a tad earlier for our engagement / gender reveal party (read about it over here). But August also marked the half-way point in my pregnancy and my second official scan – the 20 week Anomoly Scan.

I’ll talk more about it in my next Pregnancy Diary, covering my second trimester, but it’s definitely been a highlight of my month. It’s the scan where you find out that the little pickle is developing the way it should and everything is looking A-OK. And our little gymnast is looking fab. CAN’T BELIEVE I’M HALF-WAY THROUGH. Just a few months until childbirth lolz.

This Month I’m Arranging… My Babymoon!

I’ve decided to do a whole Babymoon series, revolving around the relaxing trips you take with your other half before you have a baby. So naturally I had to try out a few! YES.

I’ve had ZERO trips on the cards for the last couple of months, which is extremely stressful as a Travel Blogger, I can tell you. So I’m really excited to schedule in a few breaks across September and October. But more on that soon, pal… (I know, I’m such a tease).

Hitchin Lavender Fields

That’s everything for August but come back next month for some Babymoon travel goodness, my moving house dramas and I’m sure lots more pregnancy-related things because that’s my life now lol.

Head over to my Instagram or Twitter for regular updates on my travels, my pregnancy and my life in general, pal.
