We got married! Four and a half years after we got engaged in Italy (having a baby and buying a house in-between), but we finally had our wedding!

I know I’m not the best at updating my blog anymore, gone are the days of 3 new articles a week!! But considering I’ve documented my most important moments on my little slice of the internet – the engagement story, the birth story, etc – I figured it was only right to pop a little post up about one of the best days of my life.

Because truly, it was.

The weird thing is I wasn’t expecting it to be. Everyone says your wedding day is the best day of your life, but I know myself pretty well, and it just didn’t sound like my jam. I don’t like being the centre of attention, the thought of walking down the aisle with everyone watching me was terrifying, and I found the idea of a first dance anxiety-inducing.

But I woke up that morning, with pretty minimal nerves. I had a little spurt of panic before walking down the aisle when I heard the song playing (Only You by Yazoo), but as soon as I started walking and saw all the people I love in the room, I just had a cheesy grin plastered to my face for the rest of the ceremony!

I was then pleasantly surprised for the rest of the day, as everything was just as I’d wanted it. I gave a speech, that I uncharacteristically hadn’t actually rehearsed at all, and it went down great! (Although I should mention I put the speeches before the meal, so that I could relax and enjoy it without worrying about the impending public speaking). The first dance was also unrehearsed but was fun and upbeat and we got everyone up on the dancefloor straight away. I didn’t feel centre of attention at all, as I was just surrounded by all of the amazing people we had invited, not the unknown crowd of strangers I had pictured in my head.

It’s funny, that I had expected a day that I had planned to perfection, with all the people I love and all the little touches I wanted, to be anything other than wonderful! But hey, that’s me.

Of course not everything went to plan, it never does. I forgot to put the topper on the cake, the registrar forgot how to pronounce my maiden name, and all the guests forgot there was another room with the photobooth in it. But none of that really mattered. It was a bloody amazing day with giant plates of food, disco balls everywhere, a steady flow of margaritas, an amazing indie rock band, and most importantly, my most favourite people in the world.

Plus, I married my best friend.

Best. Day. Ever.

(I’ll post again with all the wedding details and supplier love, but for now, I’m going to enjoy my honeymoon, lads. xx)
