We Bought A House!

by

Ok, I know I’m a little low on travel content right now. But I’m hoping you’ll forgive me when you realise that not only have I been looking after my brand new baby, but I’ve also been contending with solicitors and mortgages… Because yes, you heard it here first, I actually got myself onto the ol’ property ladder.

Now, I’m not really one of those people that thinks buying a house is essential. It’s never been a massive priority in my life, maybe because as millennials it’s just always seemed unattainable without completely changing our lives to save money. But since finding out I was pregnant and moving in with my parents (I couldn’t afford rent on statutory maternity pay, there’s a post about it here), I figured it was a good opportunity for us to save for a house whilst we were here. Might as well, ay?

Well it got to the point where we’d gotten to grips with parent life a little and the fog of the fourth trimester had lifted, so Josh and I decided to visit a new-build development in town “just to look”. We went to one development, spoke to one builder and they showed us one property (not yet built), and two days later we’d reserved it! So yes, this is in fact the biggest impulse purchase of my life. What can I say, I’m a gal that knows what she wants.

The house won’t be ready until August/September time which ties in perfectly with my going back to work. You know, so that I can actually afford to pay the mortgage. But I’m excited, it looks pretty perfect for us.

It’s 2 bedrooms so that Indi can have a nice new room just for her (I can’t wait to design her nursery!), and there’s a nice big master with an ensuite for us. It’s a small, open-plan living room/kitchen so we’re going to have to be smart with space, but it’s the perfect little starter home for the three of us. And I’m excited to finally be able to decorate somewhere after years of renting houses with magnolia walls where you can’t put holes in the walls. I can’t wait until we can have a place all our own, just for our little family.

Anyway I just wanted to put it out there, because I’m very grateful that we’ve been able to buy somewhere and I’m so excited that I had to tell you about it!

Watch this space for interiors posts, you know I won’t be able to help myself…
