Wedding Planning Diaries: Choosing Bridesmaid Dresses at Rewritten

by

Well hello, check me out, actually writing more updates from the world of wedding planning! I’m on a roll. Last time I was catching you up on bits and bobs I’d done quite a while ago now. Y’know, like the shoes and the rings and the flowers. But today’s post is about something a bit more recent – choosing my bridesmaid dresses!

The Bridesmaid Vision

I knew I wanted a colourful wedding. It’s just more us. I love chic weddings where it’s all greenery and one or two colour pops, but I want all the colour, babes. I subconsciously veered down the pastels route with my decor, to avoid it looking garish and over-the-top, so that’s the way it’s heading. And bridesmaid dresses are the perfect vehicle for a bit of pastel colour.

I also love mismatched dresses. Josh does not agree with me on this. He thinks it’s the one time all your mates wear the same dress. But I just think all of my bridesmaids are so different and I’d like it if their dresses were more “them”. Don’t worry, he’ll come around when he sees the vision come to life.

Rewritten

I discovered Rewritten a while ago and loved that they did gorgeously chic dresses in lots of different colours. So it would be easy for me to both inject some colour, and have that mismatched vibe I like. But because they are all in the same kinds of fabric and the same simple designs, they would still all look together, y’know?

My dreams were almost dashed when I realised that they were booked up at their London showroom for months. I was considering ordering online but some of the styles I liked were made-to-order so we wouldn’t be able to return them if they weren’t quite right. I was considering my options when the gods answered my prayers… Rewritten opened a brand new pop-up shop for the summer in Shoreditch! So I booked straight away and me, my mum and my 3 bridesmaids headed into town for the appointment.

The Bridesmaid Try-On Appointment

The appointment at the Rewritten Shoreditch pop-up was 90 minutes long and it was just us there. For some reason I thought there would be lots of people there but it was just us and the stylist, Meg. So it had really attentive one-on-one customer service! Meg was really good at showing us all the dresses, suggesting alternative styles if someone wasn’t feeling the dress they had on and making us all feel really comfortable.

And those 90 minutes flew by! The girls tried lots of styles and colours on and we landed on a really lovely combo that I’m happy about! Defo living that pastel-hued dream.

Like I said, my wedding party are all really different and naturally went for different style dresses. Actually it’s two dresses and a jumpsuit for my Maid Of Honour, which I’m psyched about. I was hoping someone would go for the jumpsuit, it’s very cool.

So not only did we smash out the bridesmaid dresses in one go (I was dreading have to order lots of separate things and dealing with returns, etc.), we also got to have a really lovely experience together! We went out for cocktails afterwards and then onto dinner, and it was just a really gorgeous day with my favourite women. I think it’s these parts of planning a wedding that are the most enjoyable to be honest, so you have to make the most of them!

Budget Update

Lol, I’m gradually learning to dread this part of the Wedding Planning Diaries! Mainly because my budget is absolutely out of control. Everyone I know who has ever got married has told me that this is always the case. But it’s still v annoying for me, the ultimate spreadsheet girl who thought she had this in the bag.

But anyway, the bridesmaid dresses. I had budgeted around £80 for the dresses, thinking we’d hit up ASOS or something, but Rewritten dresses/jumpsuits came in between £130 and £175. Just a casual +138% vs the budget. LOL.

I’m realising this is how it happens. An extra £50 on a bridesmaid dress you love doesn’t feel like a big deal. But you add £50 to everything and suddenly your wedding budget has doubled. Mine is certainly heading that way. I think my £15k budget is a thing of the past, kiddo.

But I fully consider every purchase. I want these dresses. My wedding party look amazing in them and they deserve the best. YOGMO. (You Only Get Married Once…)

See ya next time for all things Wedding Website.
