If you haven’t had a lot of experience with young children, or it’s been a while, you might be a bit stuck on what to buy for babies and toddlers. Or maybe you have been around the little tykes, but you’ve exhausted all ideas. Then Christmas can be a bit tricky.
What exactly are you meant to buy a newborn baby for Christmas? Or how about a 1 year old or a 2 year old? Pretty much until they can have a conversation with you and tell you exactly what they want for Christmas, it can be a bit tough.
So I’ve done a little gift guide, especially for buying presents for the little ones in your life, whether it’s your kids, nieces and nephews, or your friends’ offspring. Here’s a few ideas to start you off. (Heads up: contains affiliate links)
What To Buy Babies For Christmas
Let’s face it, babies don’t even know what Christmas is, so you can’t really get it wrong. But the parents may have some opinions. I’d say your first port of call with babies is to ask ma and pa what they want as there may be something they’re short of – bodysuits, muslins, socks, etc. At this stage practical presents go a long way.
If not, here are a few gift ideas for babies, including baby sensory items, teething toys and other cuteness.
- Rainbow Play mat – Kidly
- Clip-On Pram Book – Kidly
- Watermelon Teether Toy – Kidly
- Sophie La Girafe Teething Toy – Amazon
- Wooden Baby Instruments – Amazon
- Milking It Bodysuit – Claude & Co
- Clementine Swaddle – The Bebe Hive
- Tiny Human Bodysuit – West Stanton
- Icey Keys – Amazon
What To Buy 1 Year Olds For Christmas
By the time a kid is one, they do have some interests, but this probably revolves around a toddler TV show they like. If you don’t know what they like, you can pretty much bet it’s either Peppa Pig, Bing or Hey Duggee.
Other ideas for toddlers include beginner wooden puzzles, push-along toys that encourage walking, megablocks, pretend play and board books.
- Wooden Push-Along Walker – ELC
- Wooden Fruit Set – Little Dutch
- Play Toaster Set – Little Dutch
- Wooden Taxi – One Hundred Toys
- Play Kitchen – Little Dutch
- Mixed Book – Amazon
- Hey Duggee Soft Toy – Amazon
- Megablocks – Amazon
- Numbers Puzzle – HEMA
What To Buy 2 Year Olds For Christmas
My daughter is nearly two (early Jan birthday) so I have lots of presents for her at this time of year. I’ve gone for games and arts & crafts that are suitable for 2 year olds, plus she loves stickers!
Other ideas for two year olds include dress-up outfits/accessories, lovely books, more imaginative play and cute outfits.
- Dinosaur Onesie – Amazon
- Bunnies On The Bus book – Amazon
- Sweatshirt – Milk Teef
- Dungarees – Turtledove London
- Wicker House Bag – One Hundred Toys
- Play Tent – The Bebe Hive
- Doctor Dress-Up – HEMA
- Washable Finger Paints – Amazon
- Sticker Pack – Amazon
What To Buy 3 Year Olds For Christmas
A great thing about shopping for 3 year olds is that SO many toys are “not suitable for under 3s”. So FINALLY you can buy presents for older toddlers without worrying about choking hazards! Hello Lego, at last!
Other ideas include books with a bit more substance, kids room decor and balance bikes!
- Fancy Balance Bike – The Bebe Hive
- Dungarees – Cub and Pudding
- Bold Women in Black History – The Bebe Hive
- Letter Cushion – The Bebe Hive
- Paw Patrol Rescue set – ELC
- Megaball Run – Kidly
- Clock Set – Kidly
- F is for Feminism book – The Bebe Hive
- Lego Tub – Smyths
Ok, hopefully that gives you a few ideas for the babies and toddlers in your life! Let me know if you have any other suggestions, gang.
