A Mother’s Day Treat At Champneys Tring

by

It’s Mother’s Day this weekend! In fact it’s my very first Mother’s Day ever that I can celebrate being a mum. I’m only a couple of months into motherhood but I really do love being Indiana’s mama.

But let me tell you kid, it is hard work.

So it couldn’t have come at a better time when the babes over at Virgin Experience Days sent me off to Champneys Tring this week, for a luxury spa day as a Mother’s Day treat! Halleloo!

I wanted to take my mum along but as she’s recovering from surgery at the moment, she wasn’t allowed a spa day just yet (don’t worry I’ll make up for it when she’s better). So Josh was in luck and came along with me. So maybe it’s a very early Father’s Day treat too? After surviving the Fourth Trimester I think we both deserve it to be honest.

My day got off to a wonderful start as Indi slept through the night from 10pm to 7am! What a good pickle. Then we made the 45 minute drive to Champneys Tring, the original Champneys spa by the way, and checked in.

We were shown to a room for day guests where a lovely little breakfast spread awaited us, before we were given a quick tour of the facilities. Ooh and of course we were each given a lovely robe to use and flip flops we could keep! Loves me a freebie.

To get us off to a good start, we both wanted to get a bit of exercise in so Josh hit the gym and I went for a swim. Usually in spas you get a pretty pool with water features and day beds, that isn’t very practical, but Champneys has a proper 25m pool. So it felt good to get some lengths in. It’s the first proper exercise I’ve done since having Indi and it actually felt really good!

The changing facilities are lovely too. Nothing above and beyond necessarily, but you get all of the nice Champneys products in the showers and vanity area, so that’s a nice touch.

Then we made the rounds, using the sauna and steam room and jacuzzis. This is best part of any spa day, isn’t it?

I couldn’t use these kinds of things when I was pregnant, so I really appreciate it all now. I loved the outdoor jacuzzi in particular, looking out over the grounds. There’s something about outdoor jacuzzis, feeling the cool air on your face but being all cozy in the tub. So dreamy.

There’s also a thalassotherapy pool that we tried, which I later had to Google to figure out what it is. It’s a pool with jacuzzi beds and a waterfall, but it’s all seawater. The water has high mineral content and supposedly has beneficial properties for the skin. Pretty cool, ay?

We also had a coffee in the Terrace Cafe and wandered the grounds a bit before heading to the restaurant for lunch.

Lunch was included in our Virgin Experience Days voucher and was a buffet. But mate, it was the healthiest buffet I’ve ever seen. About 15 different salads and not a chip in sight.

I had mushroom and garlic soup to start and then a medley of salads, pasta, potatoes and vegetables for my main. I’m just terrible at buffets because I want to try everything and end up with a very random plate… But it was all tasty. Although I wasn’t impressed with the healthy dessert selection – rice pudding, no thanks – so headed back to the cafe for a slice of lemon cake in the afternoon. Much better.

Also included in our voucher was a 25 minute Elemis Superfood Facial each.

I forget how much I like facials. Normally if there’s an option of treatments I will always go for a massage, I just love them. But I’m so glad we had facials this time as it was a really nice experience, complete with lots of lotions and potions, relaxing music and even an arm and shoulder massage. I came away super relaxed with lovely soft skin and smelling delicious!

I missed Indiana during our spa day but I think it’s so important to have some time to myself every now and then. And I came back from my day at Champneys Tring feeling refreshed and ready to tackle mum life again.

So thank you Virgin Experience Days for a lovely treat! This is one relaxed mama over here.
