A Banging Belize Bucketlist

by

One of the places I’m desperate to visit is Central America. It feels like it’s at that sweet spot of having enough of an established tourism industry to feel safe to visit and not be too difficult to get around, but is still a little undiscovered, so that I haven’t seen every beautiful destination all over Instagram… Y’know what I mean?

And well, one of these Central American destinations high on my list is Belize. It has lots of history and Mayan culture, plus it pretty much looks like paradise. So I thought I’d hit you up with a banging Belize bucketlist today.

These are the things I would really quite like to do in beaut Belize, please.

Belize Underwater Turtle

See The Great Blue Hole From Above

Now, one of the biggest tourist attractions in Belize is the Great Blue Hole. It’s a marine sinkhole, 43 miles off of the coast of Belize. So it’s pretty much a big pretty blue circle in the middle of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve system.

But the thing is, people visit the Great Blue Hole to scuba-dive. And as we know, I’m not about that underwater life. I tried snorkelling in the Red Sea in Egypt, I tried it in Ningaloo Reef in Australia, it’s just not for me.

BUT WAIT.

You can actually see this beaut from ABOVE.

So I would be very keen to hop onto one of the little sea planes to check out this 407-feet deep UNESCO World Heritage Site from a bird’s eye view. Although I think the narrow 6-seater plane would definitely be scary, it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, huh?

Yep, this is firmly on my bucketlist, y’all.

Relax in Caye Caulker

Caye Caulker just looks like a backpacker’s dream! This island has plenty of gorge beaches and there’s no cars, just little golf carts to get around. Apparently there’s a dock where everyone spends the day sunbathing and drinking and listening to music and yes I’d quite like to be there right now!

There’s also sea kayaking and cute guesthouses and street food and manatees. And if seafood is your thing, there’s Lobsterfest. Oh and it’s also only an hour away from the Blue Hole so would probably be my base for the above adventure. CAN I GO NOW PLZ.

Go Horse Riding In The Jungle

San Ignacio seems like a pretty cool place to use as a hub in Western Belize as it has close access to Maya ruins, cool caves and jungle adventures. Plus it has eco-lodges you can stay at. And one of the things I’d love to do there is go horse riding in the jungle!

Apparently there’s a big cowboy culture and a lot of places you can only get to on hoof. Looks pretty cool and I think it would feel like I’m basically Indiana Jones. So yes, sign me up.

Explore The Mayan Temple Of
Caracol

There are bloody loads of Mayan temples in Belize from the looks of it, so I don’t think you can really go wrong. But one I’d like to explore is Caracol.

Caracol is located deep in the Maya Mountains and is the tallest mamade structure in Belize. It means that you get epic views of the jungle from the top of the main temple, Canaã. Sweet as.

Check Out The Truck Stop In San Pedro

Well y’know, most of my bucketlists for a new destination include some kind of foodie experience… So I had to add one here!

The Truck Stop is a shipping container food park, kinda like Dinerama in London. Except, y’know, way better. Not only are there lots of amazing places to eat, but you can sit on the dock overlooking a lagoon, or check out the beer garden.

Ooh and they have live music and movie nights and farmers markets… It sounds right up my street.

Ahhh, ok so I think you’ll agree I need to make it to Belize asap!
