Babymoon Series: What I Packed For My Babymoon Abroad

by

Packing for a trip becomes a little more comprehensive when you’re knocked up. There are a few extra things you need to think about packing to make sure your trip goes as smoothly as possible. So I thought I’d write up all of the extra bits and bobs I took to Portugal for my little Babymoon getaway last month (read about it over here!).

Some of them are really important (like your maternity notes) and some are just for fun (pregnancy lilo!), but hopefully they’ll help with the packing if you’re jetting off for a relaxing break before the little tyke arrives and turns your life upside down.

Maternity Notes

The most important thing you can take on any trip abroad whilst you’re pregnant is your maternity notes. At your midwife booking appointment, normally at about 10 weeks pregnant, you get a booklet with all of your details in, and as you have scans and appointments, these all get added onto your notes.

It just means that if you take a funny turn whilst you’re away, you have all of your info in one place for the doctors. I mean you likely won’t need them, but it gives you a bit of peace of mind knowing that you have them to hand.

Holo Lilo

Ok, now the important one is out of the way, let’s talk about the most fun one – the pregnancy lilo!

I discovered the Holo Lilo on Instagram and knew I had to try it out. Y’see this bad boy is a lilo float for the pool, but with a hole cut out in the middle for your bump to fit through! So you can finally lie on your front! **insert heart-eyes emoji**

It’s easy to blow up and has a special raised part around your hips to support the bump, so feels comfortable and safe. And you can use it for sunbathing on land as well as water so is really handy! Definitely a lot of fun getting on it too lol. I bought mine from the Holo Lilo website over here FYI.

All The Creams Ever

I mean, being pregs means you’re constantly slippery after applying a multitude of creams and lotions and potions to your skin anyway. So I made sure to bring my fave Palmers Stretch Mark Cream and Tummy Butter with me on our Babymoon. My usual routine is to use these beauts in the morning and Bio-Oil in the evening before bed. But in the sun I much preferred using the Bio-Oil all the time.

Pro-Tip: Let stretch mark wonders sink in whilst you’re at breakfast, then apply sun cream on top when you hit the pool!

Pregnancy Pillow

I mentioned this in my Tips For Travelling In Your Second Trimester post, but my total luxury item on this trip was my DreamGenii pregnancy pillow. Sleep is hard to come by in the second half of pregnancy and my pregnancy pillow has been great at keeipng me on my side in the night and making me feel more comfortable. It took up about a quarter of my suitcase but was totally worth it.

Maternity Swimsuits

Some people are cool to keep on wearing their bikinis in pregnancy but I just find them super uncomfortable. So I bought a couple of maternity swimsuits to wear by the pool. I got this leopard print wonder from Topshop and the red ‘Special K Lady’ swimsuit from Wolf & Whistle on ASOS. Job done.

Snacks For Travel

I mean I like regular snack breaks in my life in general, but whilst pregnant I much prefer eating little and often. So I came prepared with lots of snacks for the journey to Portugal! From homemade granola bars, to extra fruit pots and pastries from Pret for the plane.

I also made sure to locate the local supermarket near our hotel for late night Milka treats!

Camera For Bump Shots

One of the best things to do on a Babymoon trip is to document your pregnancy with lots of bump shots! Pregnancy just seems to be flying by and I want to have photos to show our kid what I looked like when I was pregnant with her. So yeah, bring your camera. You’re making memories right here.

Ok that’s it for now, pal. I think the most important thing is just using a Babymoon trip to relax and spend quality time with your baby daddy.

But y’know, the pregnancy lilo is pretty cool too, huh?
