I’m a budget traveller at my core. I would much rather save money on my accommodation or flights in order to see more of a country or have more of the travel experiences I want. But every now and then, you gotta treat yo’self, playa.
“Fancy Night” is what I call it. When you decide that it would be a nice change to not have to use a communal shower or be kept awake by music blaring in the hostel bar.
So you splurge.
But y’know not ALL the time. I’d say hostels make up about 60% of my travel stays, followed by 30% Airbnb and a cheeky little 10% where I say fuck it, I deserve it. Which I feel is a reasonable amount.
But as I’m spending more than I usually would, it needs to be a special hotel. Somewhere a bit boutique and cool.
Enter The Hoxton.
Now I’m sure like me you’ve seen every blogger and their aunt stay at The Hoxton in Shoreditch. It looks freaking amazing. But I’m actually talking about The Hoxton in Paris.
I had a fleeting 24 hour trip to Paris last week so just spent the one night here, but I really thought it was something special.
Sidebar: Please excuse the blurry phone snaps. Where my camera at, brah?
The Hoxton, Paris
Let’s start with the rooms.
My double room at The Hoxton was straight out of Instagram. I literally could not contain myself as I walked in and heard the retro radio playing jazz and saw the New York loft-style industrial doors to the cupboards and bathroom. I pretty much tripped over my bag trying to get my phone out to immediately take photos. Because seriously, it’s decor goals.
I’m also very much here for the white grid-patterned sheets. Where can I get my hands on these for my house plz?
Throw in a gorge full-length mirror, cool lighting and bronze bathroom fixtures and seriously, I’m obsessed. Can my house just look like this already?
Downstairs is just as stylish.
There’s quite the outside/inside vibe with a pretty courtyard and adjacent conservatory-esque lounge with lots of plants and cool wicker chairs. Then there’s a bar area complete with sweeping staircase and velvet sofas you can just sink right into with a cocktail.
The bigger bar is right next to this part, as is the hotel restaurant with it’s intimate lighting and cosy booths. I would go here just to eat or for some drinks because it bloody oozes cool. Fuck I wish I had my real camera because this place is just so photogenic.
I actually visited the hotel restaurant for breakfast the next day. It’s not included in the hotel price, so no dodgy buffets here. I had Tartine De Champignons (mushrooms on sourdough toast with chilli oil) and a cappuccino. It was epic.
Definitely above your average hotel breakfast expectations IMHO.
Overall, I was massively impressed with The Hoxton. I had high expectations and they did not disappoint whatsoever. It’s definitely not for everyone and some of my colleagues called it ‘a bit wanky’ but I love shit like this.
If anything I’m worried that I liked it a bit too much. Will I be able to go back to hostel life?!
No I’m joking, backpacker fo’ lyf.
But seriously, I could move in here, you have to check it out if you’re in Paris. It’s worth the splurge, I promise.
Have you ever stayed at The Hoxton? Would you like to?
