The Very Best Trdelnik In Prague

by

One of the highlights of my long weekend in Prague was the super sweet goodness that was the Czech delicacy of Trdelnik. I’m pretty fussy with meat and I wasn’t going near the pork knuckle any time soon pal, so these treats were my little slice of Prague foodie life. And boy were they delicious.

So what these little contraptions I hear you exclaim?

Well they are like churros but in lovely spirals, all sugary and cinnamon-y. And they can be filled with a variety of tasty things. You know, like chocolate or ice cream or your heart’s desires. The best things.

Even Josh snuck a bite when I wasn’t looking, the scamp.

Seeing as they’re sold all over the city, they also make fab midnight snacks if you’ve been out for dinner or had a few beers. Like getting a hotdog in New York of a slice of pizza in London’s Leicester Square, they taste ever better when you’re a bit boozy. But wait, is that all food?

But anyway not all Trdelnik were created equal. Sure they’re all yummy, but I always make it my mission to find the very best once I find something I like. Like the best gelato ever in Spain or the best coffee shops in Reykjavik. I’m like a foodie detective, guys.

So I think I’ve scoured out the best Trdelnik in Prague and it’s from a lovely little shop near Prague Castle, called MLS Bistro’s Creperie U Katejana. Despite already eating a few Trdelniks from the Old Town in Prague, which were lovely, I was drawn to this place because of the queue. When you see a queue somewhere and there are lots of similar shops down the road without a queue, you know it must be good.

Well it bloody was.

These bad boys were freshly made and were all soft and light inside. And they had a great selection of fillings from strawberries and whipped cream to raspberries and vanilla ice-cream. Or you could have a thick spread of something delicious inside, like caramel or Nutella.

I went Nutella obvs and it was a dream.

So if you’re in Prague, go, run! Go and get a slice of heaven from this beaut shop, it’s worth the steep hill you have to climb from the Charles Bridge, and hey, you’ve already worked off the calories. Go, you.

Have you tried Trdelnik? Isn’t it the best?! Let me know in the comments below or tweet me @HeelsInBackpack!

  1. You’ll be disappointed to find out that Tredelniks aren’t a traditional or local Czech food at all, and can be found in other European countries under different names. They just exist to convince tourists that they’re having local food so they pay more. Locals don’t have these things and never have had them.
