La Picea: The 7th Best Pizza in the World

La Picea Pizzeria, Levanto

I love this kind of accolade. It’s so obscure. ‘7th best’ doesn’t seem much of an achievement but ‘7th best in the world’ is something to brag about I guess. Particularly when it comes to pizza. There’s a lot of pizza in the world.

But anyway, I’ll set the scene for you.

Levanto, Italy

I was wandering through Levanto (a hidden gem of a town) and came across a small pizzeria called La Picea, which claimed to have the 7th best pizza in the world according to TripAdvisor. So I decided I had to try it. When in Levanto and all.

Well it was definitely the best pizza I’ve ever had. I kept it pretty simple and went for the mushroom pizza and it didn’t disappoint.

It was so saucy and delicious that when you picked up a slice the end drooped. But it was still crispy and not at all soggy. Top marks from me for sure. Even though my boyfriend ordered better than me and had a ham, sausage and black olives number. So good.

I spoke to a couple from the States who also had dinner at La Picea that night, and they agreed. Best pizza ever.

They even threw in some free appetizers! A lot of places in Italy seem to do this and I freaking love it.

The restaurant itself was also really lovely and intimate. It felt a lot more authentic than the restaurants you get in places like Florence and Pisa with their check tablecloths and tourist menus. La Picea was full of locals and families having their dinner. Nothing showy, just gorgeous food. The house red wine was also really nice for the price.

Just one waitress was running the show, with a full restaurant, but the service was still great. And finally, the price was fab. Super affordable at €8 for a whole pizza that I could only just finish. So very backpacker friendly!

So if you’re in Levanto, or anywhere in Cinque Terre really, you need to check it out. Now I just need to try the 6 pizzas that are better than this bad boy…
