Food Diaries: Where To Eat In Seville, Spain

by

Okay lads, it’s time for the best post of my trips… FOOD DIARIES. In these posts I just like to list a few restaurant/cafe recommendations I have for a destination, and share the foodie love. And this time it’s Seville’s turn!

As we were with Indi on this trip, we didn’t eat out every meal like we normally do. And when we did, it was sometimes for convenience rather than because we wanted to eat somewhere. For example, we ate at the Aquarium cafe one day, just because it was Indi’s lunchtime and we were far from any other restaurants. (Alas, the aquarium does not make this list.)

But I did discover a few lovely spots in Seville and ate some really delicious food. Here are the ones I’d totally recommend…

Where To Eat & Drink In Seville

Bar Pelayo

Let’s start with the amazing tapas we had at Bar Pelayo. This cute restaurant is near the Cathedral and caught my eye with all of the little potted plants outside. Plus it got bonus points for having highchairs available.

We ordered 6 plates of tapas to share and actually they were huge! So we definitely didn’t need it all! I loved the ratatouille and serrano ham croquettes and Josh could not stop talking about the pork cheek. I was surprised that is was so good to be honest seeing as it’s in a bit of a touristy location. But the food was great, it was baby-friendly and really affordable.

Virgin Coffee

On the first day in Seville, we kept getting bad coffee. We were going to local cafes throughout the day but just couldn’t find a good cup of Joe.

So I googled some good places for coffee and discovered Virgin Coffee which wasn’t too far away from where we were staying. It’s in the Regina neighbourhood, which has lots of cute shops and restaurants, near the Metropol Parasol. It’s basically a hole in the wall but the reviews online were correct: it does GREAT coffee.

Bar El Comercio

Every day in Seville, we would walk through the lanes and kept passing this little local bar that looked cool – Bar El Comercio. Then we noticed the “churros” sign and vowed to come back on our last night with Indi in the baby carrier (wasn’t really a pram place).

It was such a good shout. They were PROPER churros with dipping chocolate and were SO cheap. Definitely recommend checking it out!

Escalona

I spent a few evenings chilling in Plaza De La Alfalfa. It’s nice square with cafes and restaurants and mainly locals socialising. There’s a little play park with kids laughing and it’s just a really good vibe.

One night we perched ourselves out front in Escalona under patio heaters (it’s a bit chilly in November) to chill and people watch. I ordered a glass of sangria and decided to get Patatas Bravas as “pre-dinner nibbles”. But oh wow, they were so good that they ended up being the highlight of my night. Josh got some fish tapas too and we ended up liking these little starters better than the dinner we went on to eat elsewhere. (Probs should’ve just stayed there).

La Cantina Mexicana

By our last day, we were kind of over tapas, dare I say it. There’s only so many croquettes you can eat. So we decided to go to a Mexican restaurant – La Cantina Mexicana. The thing is, it ended up being Mexican tapas! Such a cool concept – delicious Mexican food but in small plates. So we ordered a whole bunch.

It was so good that after I took a photo of our margaritas (yaaasss), I wolfed down the lot. So I don’t have anything to show you. But let me paint you a word picture – juicy pork tacos with pineapple relish, chicken tinga tostadas, cheesy tacos with chunky salsa and loads of lime, and these weird carrot spring rolls things. YUM.

If you want something a bit different to break up the Spanish omelettes, give them a look-in.

La Cacharreria

We stumbled upon La Cacharreria in the Regina neighbourhood, near the Metropol Parasol and decided to stop for brunch. It’s pretty small and gets quite busy, but we just managed to nab a table outside as someone was leaving.

Josh got a very cute muesli and yoghurt pot, but I went all out and got the “Spanish Brunch”. When in Spain, ay? It consisted of pear, goat’s cheese and honey on toast, chorizo, spinach and mozzarella on toast, a chia bowl and a smoothie. I thought it was quite a cute set-up and really liked the pear combo. It’s quite a comprehensive menu though so there’s lots to choose from.

Luca’s City Bar

Luca’s City Bar is one of those places on the walk into the central area, with a lot of foot traffic going past. And there’s a guy outside trying to drum up business. So it kind of put me off. But it looked cute with fairy lights and colourful furniture, and I’m a sucker for those things, so we went in for dinner one night.

Honestly I had low expectations, but the food was really great. The most exceptional thing I ate, possibly in the whole trip, were these grilled artichokes. It’s not normally something I would order, and thought I’d try them on a whim, but oh baby, they were delicious. Really garlicky with crunchy onions on top… WOW.

Bar Alfalfa

We walked past Bar Alfalfa at least twice a day and were determined to go in as it always looked busy and cool. But we always had the pram with us, which wouldn’t really fit in there, so on the last night we went back with the baby carrier for a drink. And I’m so glad we did.

It’s a really cool bar with locals that were super friendly. The wine is good and VERY cheap. And they serve food, which although we didn’t try, looked immense. I mean they have massive legs of ham hanging up everywhere so it’s defo a foodie spot.

Galle Tanas

Last but not least I’m going to shout out to Galle Tanas a little shop that exclusively sells cookies. I picked this bad boy up and chose the orange chocolate one, purely because I was in Seville and oranges are a big deal there. Worth a stop if you’re in Regina!
