It’s A Girl!

by

We decided to have a little party on Saturday, with our very favourite people, for several reasons. First of all, we got engaged in April. And secondly, we found out we were having a baby a couple of weeks later. In the whirlwind of emotions that have come with these massive life changes, we never actually let ourselves stop and celebrate these amazing things that have happened.

Cue our ‘We’re Engaged & Knocked Up’ party.

We just figured it would be a nice opportunity to get together with our best friends and immediate family and have a few drinks to celebrate the wedding that will eventually happen and the new baby that will be joining the squad in January.

Not gonna lie, I hate hosting parties. I don’t like the attention. I don’t like the stress of worrying whether everyone’s enjoying themselves. It’s a lot. Hence we made it pretty small with just 20 odd of our faves, and held it at the local pub over the road from our house. Felt a bit more low-key, y’know?

Obviously the stress was for nothing and it was nice to spend time with the people we love most. And yep, we went full American and did a cute gender reveal!

I’ve read a few things recently where people talk about how obnoxious people that do gender reveals are. That it’s self-indulgent and only the parents care so what’s the point?

But honestly, our guests were dying to know, pestering me from the start of the party and asking when the big reveal was going to happen! So I definitely think it’s something that your closest friends enjoy. I’m just saying for the haters, k?

Anyway, we actually found out the gender of the baby the day before. I didn’t want to do the thing where the couple find out at the reveal too. Although I love when other people do it, I’m not really a heart-on-my-sleeve kinda gal. I don’t really like the thought of everyone seeing my immediate reaction.

Even in the scan room I feel like I don’t react right to things. When the lovely lady at Ultra-sound Direct told us the gender, I was just like “Oh, cool”. I was really happy about it. I just can’t process feelings straight away in front of people.

But anyway, I digress.

We went for confetti cannons I got on Amazon for the gender reveal (these ones). But turns out it’s pretty damn hard to use them. We counted down but I just couldn’t bloody do it. Josh ended up having to do mine too…

** Thanks to Sophie for getting this video! **

But hooray, it’s a girl!

I mean you knew that already from the title, but it was really cool to see my family’s reactions. They’re all really happy. This girl is going to be SPOILED by her grandparents, I know it!

It’s weird, the gender reveal thing. Because it can only be one of two things, or boy or a girl, and both things are great. So it’s just a great day all round to be honest!

I’ll let you in on a secret, I was kind of hoping for a girl. I would’ve been happy with a boy too, I just want my baby to be healthy (I always thought that was a cop-out, but once you’re carrying the little nipper, it’s literally all you care about). But I think it’s natural to want a little mini-me in the world! I just hope she likes to travel.

And now we can start buying stuff! I mean, most of the baby things I like are gender-neutral anyway, but it’s more that we’ve reached a nice stage that we know the baby’s looking good and is developing like it should be. So it feels like a good time to start getting stuck in and spending all of our hard-earned cash on muslins and cute little booties and colourful nursery garlands (I can’t stop looking at them on Etsy, bro).

I do feel pretty strongly about the fact that I don’t want to dress my little girl in all-pink though. I don’t really like the weird thing where baby girls only wear pink and baby boys only wear blue. Like, who decided that? I want to dress my kid in cool sleepsuits with dinosaurs on them or fun rainbow leggings. But so far it’s proving hard to find these things – please let me know if you have any suggestions!

Anyhow, I just wanted to share the news with you, I’m pretty excited about this chick. And did I mention I’m at the half-way point in my pregnancy?! Holy moly. Bring on January when we get to welcome our DAUGHTER to the world! (Still not used to that word)
