A Girly Day Out In Bath, UK

by

I’ve been to Bath a few times, initially to explore the city and then for a hen weekend, and have always liked it there. It’s pretty and polished and has such beautiful historic architecture.

So when I got given a Virgin Experience Days voucher for a day out in Bath, I was really excited to go back!

My pal Lauren and I made the 2.5 hour drive over to Bath (okay, I admit I totally forgot it was that far away before I decided to drive there and back!) for a lil explore, a visit to the Roman Baths and a fancy afternoon tea. And it’s so lovely just driving into Bath, with epic views across the Somerset countryside, especially on a sunny day.

The Roman Baths

The first part of our voucher was to visit The Roman Baths. I’d been before so wasn’t sure if I’d enjoy it again but actually it’s such an impressive structure that it was still lovely to wander the gorgeous hot springs and appreciate the history of this place.

Last time I went full-tourist with the audio guide, but I just decided to wing it this time. And it was still pretty interesting. I mean, the main appeal is definitely the jade green outdoor hot springs, surrounded by Bath’s pretty buildings like Bath Abbey. It’s a good Insta-spot fo’ sho’.

But it was nice to see all aspects of the baths, have a throwback to Primary school with that mosaic realness and throw a coin into the wishing well. Definitely worth a wander if you’re in town, especially if you’re a history buff.

Exploring the city

There was a bit of time between visiting The Roman Baths and heading to afternoon tea, which was the second part of my Virgin Experience Days voucher, so we had a lil wander around town.

There were some street performances going on near the baths which were fun to watch. And we got to see some of the famous architecture in the city – like Circus, a circular street of historic townhouses.

And then, oh my, we discovered something amazing…

FUDGE KITCHEN.

A pal recommend this place to me for artisan fudge, and oh gahd, I didn’t even realise I liked fudge so much.

They make all of the fudge in front of you on a big table and offer free samples of all of their flavours. I was just popping in to have a look but after trying their dark chocolate and sea salt fudge I ended up bring home a couple of slabs! That’s how they get ya, folks…

But seriously, check this place out if you’re in Bath.

Afternoon Tea at The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa

Finally we headed to The Royal Crescent Hotel & Spa to cash in our voucher for a fancy afternoon tea. It was really lovely weather so we sat outside in the gardens and soaked up all that sweet vitamin D. And it’s super pretty out there.

The service was amazing (I’m not used to fancy places like this!) and we both ordered the Vegetarian Afternoon Tea alongside a pot each of our prefered herbal tea. I had the Rooibos Cream Orange option, which was delish!

And I have to say, I really enjoyed the food. Based on previous afternoon teas I’ve been too, I was expecting stale finger sandwiches and a couple of dry scones, but it was so much better than that, with lots of savoury treats. Personal faves were the honey and onion seed glazed mushroom sausage rolls and the truffle, brie and grape tarts! Yaaassss.

Oh, plus delicate finger sandwiches, amazing scones, essential Bath Buns (bloody amazing) and finished off with kaffir lime leaf panna cotta. V fancy. V delicious.

I would totally recommend this place as a nice venue for a special occasion or a fancy family gathering with your mum and nan. Y’know that kind of thing.

Other Things To Do in Bath

That was the end of my girly day out in Bath, and I really had such a lovely time!

But as I’ve been before, I thought I’d recommend a few more spots to check out in the city if you fancy visiting:

  • Thermae Bath Spa – A really lovely day spa with a rooftop pool fed from the infamous hot springs!
  • The Fashion Museum – See some pretty dresses and try on an old-fashioned crinoline!
  • Go Shopping – I love all of the artisan shops, second-hand book stores and independant boutiques in Bath.

Have you been to Bath? What do you think of this pretty city?
