London knows how to do Christmas. Don’t worry other European cities, London has got this. There’s a tonne of Christmas hot-spots around the city, but one of my favourites is South Bank.
Frostival at South Bank This Christmas
South Bank is a must-see destination in its own right for backpackers heading to London, what with the gorgeous views of the River Thames, Big Ben and The Houses Of Parliament. Oh and a little ol’ thing called The London Eye. You’d be a fool to miss this fabulous area any time of year.
But at Christmas, it’s even more awesome with their annual ‘Frostival’ extravaganza. Pretty blue twinkly lights line the streets and some lovely attractions are brought in just for the festive period.
There’s a lovely Christmas Market where you can eat some top notch street food, as well as the Rekorderlig Lodge for a cosy, Swedish vibe with your cider.
There’s also ice skating at ‘Eyeskate’, and even roller skating available from ‘Bump’, so you have plenty of ways to spend your festive evening in this gorgeous part of London.
The London Eye
Of course, there is the grand finale that is The Coca-Cola London Eye. On my visit last week, I ventured onto the London Eye for the first time in about a decade! I went on it when it first opened when I was a teenager and ticked it off of the bucketlist, not massively intending to revisit it. But this time around I got to see it at night. And honestly, those views are just amazing, much better in the evening if you ask me!
I did get the VIP treatment this time as part of Frostival’s ‘Winter Cocktail Experience’, with 2 rotations of the wheel, priority boarding, and some lovely Christmas cocktails to hand! I tried ‘Merry Stockings’ and ‘Candy Cobbler’, both of which were delicious! This is definitely the best way to experience the London Eye!
Shrek’s Adventure London
As part of my South Bank visit, I also got to try out the new Shrek’s Adventure London attraction that has just opened. I’m not really a family travel blogger so I wouldn’t ordinarily have visited this kind of attraction. But it really was quite fun!
Who wouldn’t want to go on a 4D adventure with Donkey & friends in a red double-decker bus? I would really recommend giving it a go if you’re travelling with little kids, or big kids alike!
So if you’re heading to the capital this month, make sure you give Frostival at South Bank a look-in! You won’t regret it. You can find more information about the area and the above mentioned attractions at southbanklondon.com.
