Ok ok, I know I’m milking it with the Bestival posts.
Well I’ve told you all about the fabulousness that was the STA Travel Hostel, and I’ve covered the alternative Mind, Body & Spirit experiences I partook in, but how about everything else? Here’s my Top 10 from my Bestival visit this month.
1 – Chuckle Brothers
Yeah you heard me. The Chuckle Brothers did a set at Bestival. Because who wouldn’t want that?! When I first read this, I figured they’d do a little comedy bit and then sing the Tinchy Stryder song. But no, this was a full on rave set complete with 90s Ibiza-esque whistles and the ‘ooa-ooa’ chant! Hilarious.
2 – Musical Bingo
This isn’t an ‘eyes down’ situation. Listen to the tunes being pumped out at the Grand Palace of Entertainment and check them off of your sheet! A lot more fun than regular Bingo, complete with glowsticks and feather boas.
3 – The Inflatable Chapel & Wedding Disco
Why not marry your best friend and ask your lad mates to be bridesmaids? Because we all like to see a man in a dress. Then finish it off with a cheesy wedding disco. They threw out some right bangers in this place. Come on Eileen….
4 – Shitfaced Shakespeare
The concept of this quirky performance is to put on a Shakespearean play with one slight difference. Get one of the actors absolutely shitfaced. This is a pretty famous show now and the beauty is that it’s always different. Beware that the Ampitheatre fills up a good 45 minutes before the performance so come early if you want to catch it next year!
5 – Caravansarai
An area of the arena consisting of gyspy-esque caravans and trailers you can chill out in and watch live music in the middle. I love this place just for the decor and the retro waltzer seating!
6 – Blind Tiger
This was a new addition to Bestival this year – a secret speakeasy piano bar hidden somewhere in the festival! It took a while to track it down but deep in the Ambient Forest, this beauty of a venue was camouflaged into the woods. Entering an abandoned shipping container you find yourself in a snug marquee complete with velvet curtains, cocktails and fairy lights. The entertainment varied from chilled out piano vibes in the day all the way to sing-along sessions where everyone belted out Oasis songs into the night! Definitely one of my highlights!
7 – Impromptu Performances and Parades
Ok this is pretty general, but I just love when you get random unscheduled performances breaking out across the festival. I particularly loved it when a brass brand cracked out ‘When the Saints go marching in’ and when a Caribbean-esque drumming troupe busted out. There’s also daily parades and performance art that I just love!
8 – Jam Jar Bar
There’s loads of cool places to grab a cocktail at Bestival but an Old Cuban from the Jam Jar Bar was my fave of the weekend. Sitting in an old caravan drinking a really delicious cocktail from a mason jar watching the Ferris Wheel go round! Perfect way to start the night.
9 – Missy Elliot
Letting out my inner 14 year old and dancing to ‘Work It’ in the rain was a musical highlight of Bestival 2015. Ella Eyre was also her usual glorious self and The Jacksons were one to check off the list.
10 – Summer Of Love Theme
I loved this year’s theme at Bestival. The Summer Of Love brought on a stampede of bright floral fancy dress, headscarves all round and boho fabulousness. It also meant there was a ‘Love-Bot’ in the fields, heart-shaped fireworks and a flower power candle display! All round a pretty cool theme and what I think gave this year a lot of character! Let’s see what theme they come up with next year…
