I think I’ve made my point on how useless I think money belts are. They’re uncomfortable and bulky and you can see them through your clothes, so are hardly secure. But anyway I’ve done this rant before (see full post here).
Post the ranty blog post, I was advised by a fellow travel blogger (thank you Manouk from Bunch of Backpackers!) that there was another option! A silk pouch small enough to carry cash in that you can put in your bra! Well I had to try it out.
Glastonbury seemed like a great place to try out the contraption, as I withdrew a lot of cash to cover my time at the festival and didn’t want it to be easily snatched. Here’s how I got on with Eagle Creek’s Silk Undercover Bra Stash.
SIZE
I could easily fit a wad of cash in this pouch, but it would also be a suitable size for cards (although probably not as comfortable). This isn’t one for your passport though. Although let’s face it, when you’re travelling your passport is normally a deposit for your hostel room, so is sitting behind reception somewhere.
SECURITY
The pouch can either clip to your bra strap with the pouch inside the cup, or to the middle or side of your bra. I chose the first option as my bras are normally quite wide and wouldn’t be suitable. It clipped on easily and had a pretty durable popper so didn’t unattach itself throughout the festival (even whilst dancing like mad to Florence). So I would definitely trust it to secure my cash on my travels.
COMFORTABILITY
The silk is super comfy! I honestly didn’t know it was there half the time. Much better than other safety gadgets I’ve tried.
Verdict? I’m sold. The most comfortable option I’ve tried for securing the emergency cash supply. I got mine from Urbane Traveller for £9.95 and would definitely recommend their website. I’m not sure on it still, it goes where I’ll get sweaty and the arm pit would be smelly… Glad to hear it is comfortable though!
Yeah I know what you mean, I wouldn’t be keen to strap it on the side but around the shoulder straps was ideal.
