Epic Travel Plans For 2018

by

Holy macaroni, how is the year nearly over?! As if 2018 is looming? Does time just go faster the older you get?

*Breathe*

It’s okay, it’s okay, because I already have lots of travel plans for 2018 to get excited about. A couple are booked, a few I’m in the process of planning and some are hypothetical and may never follow through. But either way I thought I’d share what’s coming up and what kind of blog posts will be heading your way next year, pal.

What’s next in 2018?

My 30th Birthday: Copenhagen

This one is booked! I’m heading to the Danish capital at the beginning of January to celebrate the big 3-0. And all of my best friends are coming with me!

We’re just going for the weekend and I admit I’m a bit worried about how expensive Copenhagen is going to be, especially two weeks after Christmas when I’m broke (I have such an annoying birthday). But I’m really excited to be spending the last couple days of my twenties with my fave people, discovering a new city and eating all the Danish pastries.

Josh’s 30th Birthday: Budapest

It’s also Josh’s 30th in February, so I’m taking him to Budapest!

We’ve both been meaning to go there for ages so it’s a good opportunity to get it booked. We’re still working out dates and stuff but hoping to get this one booked before the year is out.

I want to visit the thermal baths, see the pretty buildings and go to ruin bars.

Everyone else’s 30th’s

Oh did I mention about 80% of my friends are also turning 30 in 2018?

It’s going to be a fucking expensive year.

At the moment, I know my pals are planning different things, from cottage getaways to big parties. But I’m saving some annual leave for possible weekends away. Especially as they are all making the effort to come to Copenhagen with me. Good lads.

ibis Hotels: UK City Breaks

After my super fun weekend in Manchester this year, I’m also going to be doing a few more UK city breaks with ibis Hotels in 2018. I’m part of their Influencer Programme and looking forward to working more with these babes.

It’s early days and I’m not sure on locations just yet, but I’d love to visit Edinburgh, York, Leeds and Liverpool at some point! Love seeing more of my own country.

Eurovision: Lisbon

This is one I’m not sure whether it will happen, but I really hope it does.

If you follow me on social media, you’ll know my friends and I are big on Eurovision. I throw a party every year, there are snacks based on the hosting country (last year we had chicken kievs because it was in Kiev, Ukraine…) and we play a drinking game that inevitably leads to a rather boozy night. It’s a tradition.

And after Portugal won in 2017 and it meant that 2018’s event would be held in Lisbon, we had a crazy idea. What if we actually GO to Eurovision??

I’m very keen.

But of course it depends if we get tickets and flights and stuff. Fingers crossed this happens.

Hitlist: Montenegro

Okay, I’m talking potential places of interest for 2018 now. And Montenegro is high on the list. After seeing how beautiful Slovenia was in 2017, I want to see more of this part of the world in 2018. And Montenegro looks freaking gorgeous.

The only problem is flights are looking quite expensive at the moment. But I’m on the hunt for deals so watch this space.

Hitlist: Italy (again)

I need to go back to Italy. I feel like it should be a yearly thing, because I just love it. A beautiful country with my favourite kind of food. YES.

Josh and I have talked about going back to Cinque Terre because we really loved it in 2015. But I also want to do a bit of a foodie road trip visiting Bologna, Moderna and Parma. Definite possibilities of this happening next year.

Manarola

Hitlist: Long haul destination

As if that isn’t enough – because seriously, I only have 24 annual leave days so how is this all happening though – I want to get a long haul into 2018. I feel like I need a trip to give me a bit of culture shock and not just be another European city. As much as I love them, I need something a bit different I think.

The list is too long to narrow down, but if there was any way I could go to Mexico, Cuba, Japan or Colombia in 2018, I’d be a very happy gal. Pray to the travel gods that something pulls through.

That’s everything I’m thinking about right now for 2018. But to be fair this time last year I literally had no idea I was going to visit most of the places I ended up going to. That’s the beauty of travel blogging I guess, an exciting press trip could pop up at the last minute.

Let’s see what happens.

Let me know if there’s anywhere you think I should visit in 2018 in the comments below! Or tweet me at @HeelsInBackpack / find me over on Insta at @Heels.In.My.Backpack!

  1. How exciting you’re spending your 30th in Copenhagen! It’s my 30th next year too and I have in my head that I want to go away for it. I’m thinking Hong Kong and although it seems extravagant, it means my friends and I could all celebrate together which would be awesome! I can’t wait to see where else you end up next year as it’s been lovely following along with your adventures this year!
