Why Wroclaw Has The Perfect Christmas Market

by

If you’ve got a few spare annual leave days going towards the end of the year, a Christmas Market break is a pretty neat way to spend them.

You get a nice weekend of travel whilst also soaking up all of the magical festive vibes. Plus, you get to convince yourself you’re spending money on presents out there so you’re allowed to book a trip for yourself so close to Christmas…

I’ve been on a couple of Christmas market trips over the years but I thought my recent visit to Wroclaw with Wizz Air really was the best one. I had a fabulous time and feel totally festive rn.

So here’s why I think Wroclaw should be your Christmas market destination this December…

Why You Should Visit Wroclaw Christmas Market

It’s incredibly affordable

At this time of year we’re all trying to save the pennies for Christmas presents and festivities, right?

Well it turns out a weekend in Wroclaw is SUPER affordable.

Wizz Air offer daily flights from London Luton to Wroclaw with fares starting from £26.99 (one way, including all taxes, non-optional charges and one cabin bag), and I rented a studio apartment on Airbnb for the two of us for just £29 per night. Pretty decent, right?

Then spending money-wise, I just couldn’t get over how cheap everything was. Beers and coffees were in the £1-2 bracket, a mug of delicious mulled wine at the market was £2.50, a slap-up meal for two was just £20-25 and you could buy kitsch Christmas decs from £1. It was crazy.

We went for 3 nights and spent £100 each out there. And really you only need 2 nights so it could have been even cheaper.

It’s small enough to wander around without getting lost

Sometimes Christmas markets in big cities can be insanely overwhelming and quite difficult to find your way around.

But in Wroclaw it’s just the main square that turns into a winter wonderland. It’s big enough to have everything you could want from a Christmas market but you can wander around without getting lost.

The food options are A+

The normal kind of food options you get in German markets are very much present in Wroclaw – think churros, crepes, chestnuts and candy floss. But also lots of traditional Polish food like pork knuckle, kebabs and super-cute “Wroclaw gingerbread houses”.

I had sausage with potatoes and mustard which was real nice.

There are a few cute rides

You know like in Winter Wonderland in London where half the park is actually a massive fun fair? Yeah it’s not like that in Wroclaw. But that’s a good thing.

There are a few cute family-friendly rides but it’s charming and quaint, y’know? Not taken over by teenagers. God, I sound old don’t I?

Same with little fairground games, like knocking down cans or hook-a-duck – there’s just a few to keep it cute without feeling like they’re just trying to make money out of you. Oh and Josh won a tiger lol.

So many flavours of mulled wine

I made it my personal mission to try the MANY flavours of mulled wine at the cute wooden loghouse bars. From the vaguely-named “Wroclaw” blend to the spicy “Christmas” blend (personal fave), as well as more traditional “cherry” and “raspberry” flavours.

Plus, they’re all served in these amazing little red stocking mugs. LOVE.

And did I mention £2.50 a pop? This would actually be an amazing trip for a group of pals. Let’s get merry.

It’s Fairytale-themed

I mean Christmas markets look like a fairytale as it is, but in Wroclaw it has extra special touches. Like the little huts that play scenes from famous fairytales – like Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.

I mean, a few of them are a little creepy tbh but the kids there LOVED them. If you’re looking for a Christmas market trip for the whole fam – this is ideal.

Also, Wroclaw is filled with little metal statues of dwarves, which are not only cute, but definitely make it feel even more whimsical.

It’s a bloody gorgeous setting

Adding to the fairytale theme, Wroclaw’s main square is freaking beautiful with all the pretty lights. Plus, the colourful facades and gorgeous architecture of the surrounding buildings are super photogenic and just make you feel that extra bit festive.

And FYI you can actually stay at one of these houses if my Airbnb research is correct.

Wroclaw has lots more to offer

If you’re there for the weekend, it helps that you’re in a city with cool coffee shops, great brunch and cultural sights to see when you’re not at the Christmas market!

Don’t worry, I’ll write more about that soon.

Total Blogger Transparency: I visited Wroclaw with complimentary Wizz Air flights, but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I wouldn’t play you like that, shorty.
