You may remember I was meant to go to Slovenia last year. But I had a bit of a mare when I changed jobs and realised I didn’t have enough annual leave to do all of my trips, and I had to cancel it. First world problems, am I right? But huzzah, I managed to reschedule it to this year!
So over the Bank Holiday weekend the fab folk over at Wizz Air whisked me off to Ljubljana to explore this glorious country.
I’d never actually flown with Wizz Air until now but FYI they’re an ultra low-cost airline based in Hungary and have some SUPER affordable deals in Europe (flying to 28 destinations!). Josh actually flew with them to Lithuania last month on a lads holiday where the flights and 2 nights hotel cost under £100 each. (Typical lads holiday, right?).
But anyway, I flew from London Luton and managed to wangle ‘Priority Boarding’ on this trip. And can I just say – it’s freaking awesome. Let’s face it, the worst part of flying is the queues at the airport so being able to just board the plane straight away was mega. Like seriously, I got it for free because blogger perks, but I’m definitely paying extra for it next time. No doubt about it.
Wizz Air as an airline I was pretty happy with. I mean, it’s a low-cost airline so no-thrills, but the staff were friendly and I didn’t feel like cattle like I do when I fly with airlines like Ryanair. And with such cheap flights, that’s really all you can ask for I think. (Plus the plane is pink so mad props for that).
But back to the trip, I just wanted to give you an overview of what I got up to. Obvs I’ll be writing destination guides, hostel reviews, tour reviews, etc. But in the mean time, here’s a sneak peek.
Ljubljana
The Slovenian capital of Ljubljana was my base on this trip and Josh and I had two days to really explore it fully. First off, I found it such an easy city to explore – it’s very small, the city centre is completely pedestrianised and the people are super friendly.
Plus, it’s beautiful.
Like seriously, this city is colourful with gorgeous architecture, lots of greenery and pretty bridges. It’s very nice to look at.
During our time we had some time to explore on our own, visiting the Ljubljana Castle and taking a boat ride down the river. But we also did a Food and City Guide Tour with Roundabout Travel where we got a lot more information on the city’s history and culture, as well as trying lots of typical Slovenian cuisine along the way. I can’t wait to tell you all about that one.
In the meantime here’s some of my fave photos of my time in Ljubljana…
The Rest Of Slovenia
On the other full day we had in Slovenia, we decided to take a day trip out of Ljubljana to try and see some more of this country. We did a combination of two of Roundabout Travel’s half day tours – a morning visiting Lake Bled and Vintgar Gorge and an afternoon visiting Postojna Cave and Predjama Castle.
Now, ideally I would’ve had a lot more time to explore these places, it was very much a whistlestop tour. Like I could’ve spent a week at Lake Bled alone, it’s gorgeous. But this was a great opportunity to be able to see some of the gems that Slovenia has to offer in a short amount of time.
Like I said, I’ll tell you more about this trip in a subsequent post, but here’s some of the photo highlights…
I can’t recommend a trip to Slovenia enough. It’s affordable, underrated, has beautiful weather and is less than 2 hours away by plane. You need to go, like now.
Stay tuned for detailed posts on all of my adventures in this gem of a country!

Total Blogger Transparency: I accepted complimentary Wizz Air flights on this trip but all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I wouldn’t play you like that, shorty.
