Beauty Buy: Burt’s Bees Lip Crayons

by

You remember I reviewed the Burt’s Bees skincare range last year and was super impressed? Well hey, I only just found out they do make-up too! Hot damn.

I mean I’m pretty slow on the uptake. I found these fab lip crayons they do and thought they were brand new buuuuut turns they’ve been out for like a year. My bad. Still doesn’t take away from the fact that I think they’re really rad.

My fave thing about Burt’s Bees products is that they are always made of completely natural products, like beeswax! And I think this makes their products super nourishing. When I tried the body butter last year I was impressed with how moisturising it was and the lip crayons were no different. Infused with Shea Butter, Kendi Oil, and Jojoba Oil, when you apply these bad boys they literally feel like you’re putting on lip balm.

I’m super fussy with lip products because I think I have the most chapped and dry lips in the whole goddamn world. Seriously, if I wear lipstick on a Saturday night I’ll be paying for it until at least Wednesday the following week, smothering them in Vaseline every minute of every day. So I’m always a big fan of things like lip butters and tinted lip balms which are kinder to my pout. The Burt’s Bees lip crayons felt just the same, smooth and soft and not at all drying out my lips.

This is obvs really handy in hot climates when you’re travelling as everyone’s lips need a lil extra moisturising in the sun.

Unlike other lip butters and balms though, the lip crayons are super pigmented, meaning they have a strong colour to them, not just a tint. I tried three colours in the Burt’s Bees lip crayon range – Napa Vineyard, Hawaiian Smolder and Niagara Overlook. Obvs very fitting that the shades are named after travel destinations!

My fave out of the three was Niagara Overlook which is a nudey/pinkey shade which is perfect for everyday life, you know? Goes with every outfit, looks quite natural but still chic. I’m a fan.

Hawaiian Smolder is a true pink shade. I’m not normally a fan of pinks just because I’m a natural brunette and they haven’t really suited my look in the past. But since I went blonde, I’m attracted to pink shades more and more. And it definitely feels summery!

Finally Napa Vineyard was a dark shade of red, perfect for a night out when you want to glam up your look. The only problem with this one is that because it’s a lot darker than the others, I felt like it needed lip liner. Which defeats the purpose of using these moisturising lip crayons really. If you can manage to manoeuvre the chunky crayon to define your lips nicely though, it’s a fab shade.

All three were lovely matte colours but be warned that it will come off if you’re eating or drinking. But I think that’s a fair trade for having a product that won’t dry out your lips tbh.

Overall I really liked the Burt’s Bees Lip Crayons and am looking forward to seeing what else this brand has to offer in the world of make-up. Gosh, I may need to buy a bigger travel make-up bag…
