A Long Weekend In Iceland With WOW Air

by

If you’ve been paying attention to my Instagram account this past bank holiday weekend, you may have noticed I took a little trip to Iceland! The fab people at WOW Air felt my pain of not having plans over the long weekend and helped a sister out, big time.

I jetted off on the Friday so I only had to use one day of annual leave. First world problems, I know. Which meant I had four whole days to enjoy what Iceland had to offer.

WOW Air are the budget airline of Iceland so are low thrills with no food or entertainment, but you get what you pay for. And when it’s so cheap to fly you don’t mind grabbing a mag and a sandwich from WHSmiths at the airport do you? And the best part is that the plane is bright magenta! I know that shouldn’t matter but it makes me instantly like the airline. As does the ‘Only cool kids sit at the back sign in the back row’. I just like a brand with a sense of humour, you know?

The flight was great, except for the presence of a couple of stag parties in Viking hats on my plane, but what you gonna do right? The cabin crew kept them in check, it was fine. It was a shorter flight than I was expecting at just under 3 hours (I figured it was further for some reason) and the airport in Reykjavik was like the easiest to get through ever.

So what did I actually do there?

Well I stayed in Reykjavik at the super cool and quirky KEX Hostel, which I’ll do a proper review for, and used it as a base to see lots of fab things in Iceland. I went horse-riding on the cute Icelandic horses, I saw geysers and waterfalls on the Golden Circle and I even had some pamper time at the Blue Lagoon! Don’t worry, I’ll be doing full posts on all of this, but here’s a few photos to wet your whistle…

It was an amazing country and I just had the best weekend of exploring Reykjavik and the surrounding areas. I travelled solo on the trip and I found it to be such an easy place to navigate on your own. It felt safe, the people were lovely and I didn’t feel out of place travelling solo, so I would definitely recommend it for anyone’s first try at travelling alone.

Anyway that’s all for now, I just wanted to catch you guys up on where I’d been. And make sure you were prepared for the onslaught of Iceland-based posts for the rest of the month…

Total blogger transparency: I accepted free airfare from WOW Air but please rest assured that all thoughts and opinions are my own. I wouldn’t play you like that shorty.

    1. I would have liked to be there for 5 or 6 days to pack more in as there’s soooo much to do in Iceland! But 4 days is still a decent time to see the highlights. It depends on what you want to do there. I think I’ll definitely be going back to see more though!
