Range Review: Burt’s Bees

by

Seeing as it’s ‘Beauty On The Road’ month (just about), I’m going to indulge in a range review from a beauty brand I haven’t tried before – Burt’s Bees.

Burt's Bees Range

Just to introduce you to the concept of Burt’s Bees, the whole brand practices an eco-friendly philosophy, from their natural ingredients (such as Beeswax!) right down to the packaging. And I’ve always thought that the more you see of the world, the more you care about being nice to it – hence the appeal of this environmentally conscious brand to you nomads!

I tried a selection products from the brand’s range that would suit the backpacking life – Honey & Shea Body Butter, Aloe & Linden Flower After Sun Soother, Intense Hydration Night Cream, Intense Hydration Eye Cream and the Intense Hydration Treatment Mask. here’s what I thought…

Honey & Shea Body Butter

I love a good body butter, and this Honey & Shea lovely smells delicious! Super sweet! It’s really moisturising and leaves your skin smooth, with a nice glow. One thing I will say is that the consistency didn’t really seem butter-like and was more of a body lotion than other body butters I’ve used. But would be lovely to sun damaged skin. It retails at £12.99 so a tad more than I normally pay on Body Shop body butters but worth it for the lush smell and the all-natural ingredients I think. Check it out here.

Aloe & Linden Flower After Sun Soother

After-sun is no joke and finding a good one is an important pre-trip ritual. This all-natural beaut smells lovely with it’s Aloe and Linden flower ingredients and is definitely not too greasy like others can be. I love that it absorbs into the skin really quickly and makes my skin feel soft (more info here). My only criticism is that you don’t really get enough in this tube. I feel like this would last me 2-3 weeks and I normally like to take quite a lot of after-sun with me (see last week’s post on how much to take of your products here).

Intense Hydration Night Cream

The Intense Hydration range appealed to me, because my skin is constantly screaming for moisture when I’m travelling in a hot climate. I have been applying the night cream after I take off my make-up at night and always wake up to much smoother skin! It’s become part of my routine at home but I think this is a bit of a luxury item to be taking on your travels. It bodes well for the Intense Hydration range though! (More info here)

Intense Hydration Eye Cream

I like to take an eye cream with me on long haul flights. Mainly because I don’t get a lot of sleep, the air-con wreaks havoc with my skin and I arrive the other side looking horrendous. This one from the Burt’s Bees Intense Hydration range definitely does what it says on the tin – keeps the eye area fully moisturised, isn’t greasy and even reduces the appearance of fine lines. Winning. Again it’s a little more than I would usually pay at £19.99 but when you’re doing a lot of hardcore journeys, I could rationalise getting it… (More info here).

Intense Hydration Treatment Mask

This is another luxury item that you should probably leave at home. But for your pre-trip beauty prep, this treatment mask leaves your skin hydrated and nourished and ready to face the world. Literally. If you fancy it, you can check it out here.

So here’s the deal, Burt’s Bees has definitely made some lovely products that I like to use. The best part is that they all smell gorgeous. And the fact that they’re eco-friendly and all-natural is the cherry on top really. But before a backpacking trip you have to think practically sometimes (yawn I know), so I’d be silly to take it all! The treatment mask and the night cream are luxury items you can’t really afford to take with you, and I think you need an after-sun that comes in a bigger size. But I really like the body butter so I think that’s a winner and the eye cream is perfect for flights! Yay!

Have you tried any of Burt’s Bees’ goodies? What did you think?
